Five thousand years of stories and legends surrounding the dragons of Asia are revealed through this exhibition designed in partnership with the National Palace Museum in Taipei in Taiwan.
The Chinese dragon is nothing like the fire-breathing creature feared in the West. On the contrary, it embodies vital energy and the element of water. A balancing force that connects heaven and earth, it ensures the harmony of the world: the earth depends on its omnipotence to benefit from the blessings of heaven.
The Dragons exhibition brings together an exceptional collection of items and artworks, from the first depictions on jade and antique bronzes to the most popular modern forms, including the imperial arts.
The dragon, the heavenly lord, continues its flight. After symbolising the emperors' authority, it now sustains the connection between heaven and earth, bringing strength and prosperity to humankind.
