Stupéfiante Amazonie (Amazing Amazonia) is a book aimed at a wide audience, offering a rediscovery of life in the Amazon through rare objects, once known as 'Amazon stones', introducing us to the world of toxic substances that nature generously produces, for better or for worse. Following in the footsteps of Abbé Cullère, a Nantes native who lived among the Indians in the 19th century, botanists, pharmacologists, archaeologists and curators examine venoms, psychotropic substances and medicines, and give us an insight into the social, economic, dietary, ritual, festive, scientific, mythological and other aspects of these rainforest societies.
