After an exhibition dedicated to the Teotihuacan civilization, the musée du quai Branly, in close association with the Museo Nacional de Arqueologia y Ftnologia of Guatemala, continues its mission of enhancing the Mesoamerican heritage. It is also the first time in France that such prestigious Guatemalan works have been brought together.
The Mayans are one of the most flourishing cultures in the pre-Columbian world. Architecture is one of the jewels, as evidenced by the impressive remains of palaces and temples. The Mayas are also renowned for having developed a remarkable writing system, the most complete in all of pre-Columbian America, which told the photographer and explorer Désiré Charnay: "The many inscriptions that Palenque and the temples of the mountain contain the Champollion who must stop the silence of their stone table ".
