"On the Road to the Chieftaincies of Cameroon. From the visible to the invisible" dedicates the art of the communities established on the high plateaus of the Grassfields, in the west of Cameroon. Monumental architecture, blacksmithing, beadwork, woodcarving, textile production, traditional dances... Nearly 300 works, carefully guarded for centuries by traditional chiefs, custodians of tangible and intangible heritage, are presented here in a new perspective by the association La Route des Chefferies.
This book, richly illustrated with documentary photographs, presents the objects within the chieftaincies themselves. Through the writings of specialists in Cameroonian heritage, the stories of chiefs and queens, and the creations of artists, it bears witness to this living art, to this evolutionary process between the sacred and the profane, drawing on the dynamism of tradition to project us into the future."
